Yves Stilmant

Yves Stilmant is a Belgian-born cinematic composer whose musical identity bridges orchestral tradition, contemporary cinematic scoring, and the ancient cultural memory of continental Europe. Deeply connected to the Belgae of Gaul—a continental Celtic culture distinct from the more widely recognized traditions of Ireland and Scotland—his work combines emotional storytelling, historical and mythological influences, and a distinctly cinematic sense of scale.

Now based in California, Yves has built an extensive catalog spanning cinematic, orchestral, classical, Celtic, and crossover music. His compositions range from intimate lyrical works and chamber-inspired writing to large-scale symphonic and choral music, as well as contemporary cinematic works incorporating synthesizers, samplers, percussion, and modern sound design. Across these different musical worlds, melody, emotion, atmosphere, and narrative remain at the center of his writing.

His work has received growing international recognition through film festivals and music competitions worldwide, including honors from the World Film Festival in Cannes, Global Music Awards, Mozart International Music Competition, Beethoven International Music Competition, Bach International Music Competition, Classical Stars International Music Competition, Fenix Awards, Ravel Music Awards, and Gabriel Fauré Music World Competition.

His connection to his Belgae heritage remains an important part of his creative work. Through projects such as Arduenna: The First Roots, Daughters of Arduenna, Guardians of Arduenna, Gallia Belgica, Spiritus Belgarum, and I Am Belgae, Yves explores the memory and spirit of ancient continental European cultures, bringing a lesser-known branch of the Celtic world into contemporary orchestral and cinematic music.

Beyond these historically inspired works, albums including Resonantia, The Maestro’s Council, A Timeless Handshake, The Long Way Home, The Forgotten Flame, The Last Gate, and Crown of Fire and Flame reflect the broader range of his writing—from classical and symphonic composition to cinematic, hybrid, choral, and contemporary orchestral music.

In an unusual reversal of the traditional filmmaking process, Yves’s music did not follow the story—it helped create it. His orchestral works first inspired the mythology and emotional world that became the Arakai novels and, ultimately, the feature screenplay Arakai’s Tear. As the project moves toward film, he is bringing that process full circle, drawing from the musical world that gave birth to the story while developing its cinematic score. His aim is not simply to score the film, but to preserve a creative continuity between music, literature, and screen.

In addition to his music career, Yves is an award-winning author whose works explore history, identity, mythology, and storytelling. His books include I Am Belgae, recipient of an International Impact Book Award, and the award-winning fantasy novels The Legend of Arakai and Arakai and the Sisters of Elune.
